Welcome to the new era of Issan cuisine. While somtam and grilled chicken are still a favorite, what Thai chefs are dishing out at Mahaseth or DAG (Warehouse 30) is pushing the envelope beyond any expectations.

On Wed Oct 21st, we team up with Chef Chalee Kader, who prepares the below menu, served shared, and priced at thb 1,300++ per person. Diners can choose from a list of 5 amber wines – ranging from a short maceration period to over 6 months – and learn to explore the nuances of these phenomenal category. In addition, we will also serve Okro’s Wines from Georgia, a light red from Saperavi Budeshuri and short skin contact from the Mtsvane grape. Red wine lovers will not be left dry, as we will bring one in line with the theme here.

To book please email 100mahaseth.ekamai@gmail.com or call 02 235 0023.

wonderfruit imageFor this ever improving music, art and food festival in Pattaya, we select some squeaky pure wines from our winemaking partners, who farm without chemicals and make wines by….not really doing much! The buzzword du jour is low intervention wines.

We are excited to pour a few Jauma wines that are unlike many natural wines: extremely easy to enjoy outdoor, where perhaps glasses and temperatures aren’t ideal. They expressive and bright, have nuanced flavors that enable you to appreciate aromas as they enfold.

SONY DSCIf you have to drink Champagne, then at least drink one that is from a Grand Cru village and organic for over 30 years, such as Andre Beaufort’s. The living soils make a wine that is dense, crystalline, with mineral flavors and structure. Disgorged about 2 years ago, this Brut Reserve is now blossoming.

ochota

There is wine, there is rock n roll, and there is music in a bottle from Ochota Barrels. Tara and Amber make the Slint Chardonnay coming from a cool spot up on the Adelaide Hills. Tightly wound, razor-sharp style of Chardonnay and gentle tingling on the tongue.

Most chefs at Wonderfruit will prepare Thai or Asian accentuated meals. The whites that work well with these are skin-contact wines with their spiced-tinged aroma and subtle oily texture. Claus Preisinger’s Kalkundkiesel isn’t an orange wine, as it lacks the structure and phenolics, but it certainly has vibe and kick to make you crave for more when downing delicious meals outdoors.

We have a few more wines available, but you get the style we aim to present. Make sure to check out the chef line up here.

The New Australia is having a moment now. Freshness and nuance have taken over from sweetness and impact. Many young winemaker’s and celebrated names make no rules hold wines from the Adelaide Hills, to McLaren Vale and Yarra Valley. They bottled pet nat, skin contact and other crazy blended low-fi wines lean towards the naturalist end of the spectrum. If you are interested in the remote and unusual, wines that brim with life and fun, this wine talk might just be the one for you.

The last 10 years have seen many independent growers and winemakers emerge in many of today’s “cool” wine regions including Yarra, Adelaide Hills (Australia) or Canterbury (New Zealand). Most likely, these individuals traveled extensively, worked and tasted with the best winemakers, and scraped their pennies together to either buy or rent vineyards to grow healthy grapes and make soulful wines they believe in. Be it certified organic, biodynamic, or not, these scented wines and balanced wines, often with crunchy fruit from whole cluster fermentation, are delicious to taste today.

Please join us at About Eatery on Saturday April 1st and taste the magnificent wines from James Erskine (Jauma), Gary Mills (Jamsheed), Patrick Sullivan, William Downie, Taras and Amber (Ochota Barrels) and Claudia and Mike Weersing (Pyramid Valley). They are a style one their own, and a world apart from what you find on the shelves.

Limited to 12 seats, each at thb 700. Starts 0530pm. To book email marketing@winegarage.asia
